It’s not every wedding that the bride and groom spend most of the day in the hospital. Due to an accident at work earlier in the week this wedding almost wasn’t able to happen.( how do you even cancel a wedding?) But, by the grace of God, Saturday morning when I called Christa before the wedding, she gave the green light- Simon’s hand was getting stitched up. They were going to try to go through with it and make this wedding happen!
What followed was a bride prep with incredibly happy bridesmaids and a very tired - yet joy filled bride. After bride prep we went to do the first look with Christa and Simon. And that’s when we saw a very green and glistening groom. The hard decision had to be made and they had to go in to the hospital. So they asked for us to hold the ceremony and pray that they would be able to make it back to get married!
I arrived at the church where we were going to meet the family for family photos shortly after they left for the hospital. I arrived WITHOUT the bride and groom and had to break the news that… “uh, yeah… They're at the hospital.” Definitely not a phrase you expect to hear on a wedding day! The next few hours were filled with family mingling around, family photos minus the bride & groom, phone updates, and some singing.
It was definitely a day to remember and filled with loads of raw emotion. After much waiting, we finally got the news that they were going to be able to make it! An hour and a half late for the ceremony, but… they MADE it! There wasn’t a face in that whole church that wasn’t smiling or had a few tears trickling down.
Christa and Simon: thank you so much for having me along for your crazy, emotional, and joy filled wedding day! Even with all the craziness I was so happy to be able to be a part of it! Wishing you both all the best,
